Kaylah’s Bonfire. Pay It Forward.

We took a trip up to Marysville a few months ago to celebrate something very special with our dear friends David and Kristina. Their four-year-old angel of a daughter, Kaylah, had just beaten cancer. They planned to have a bonfire to burn and let go of the radiation mask and backpack that Kaylah had to use for the past year while in treatment. It was an extraordinary moment, and we were so blessed to be there.

(I can’t finish this post without honoring our friend, Sarah Hanna, who passed away last week in her battle against cancer. She was 25. Her astonishing gift for singing and for loving others will be missed dearly. If you have a moment, please listen to her songs on her website.)

Adam + Noby | [SHIFT/tilt] Workshop 2.0

Last two images taken by my brother, Riky, and old friend Masao, two of the participants from [SHIFT/tilt] Workshop 2.0. Thanks to Kevin, Jenny, Shiloh, Jason for attending and helping out, and to our fantastic models Adam and Noby. Big thanks to my buddy Lucas for coming through with an amazing projector with such short notice.

Thanks to Masao for filming the workshop — keep an eye out for the video soon. :)

davina + daniel | crescent city, california

I simply adore these two. Davina + Daniel are fellow wedding photographers who hail from Montreal. They’re in the final stretch of their two-month road trip across America, and are finally on their way home.

We met about halfway between San Fransisco and Seattle in a little coastal town inaccurately named Crescent City. We didn’t have long together, but we swapped mini-portrait sessions of each others’ families.

Their next road trip better include the Pacific Northwest :)

sarah + kisung | salish lodge and spa | the album

Sarah and Kisung have become wonderful friends since we first met last spring. They are so full of heart and sincerity, and they’ve become an aunt and uncle to Justin. We had dinner with them a few weeks ago and they told us that they were expecting a baby this summer — we, in turn, informed them that we were expecting a baby this autumn! We are surrounded by so much love — we have five dear sets of friends that are all expecting this year, a few of which are due as early as next week! :)

I’m going to wear my heart on my sleeve a bit — I teared up more than once while I was putting this album together, especially through the ceremony photos. Hopeless romantic here.

Their wedding was at the beautiful Salish Lodge and Spa — the image in front of Snoqualmie Falls is a panorama comprised of four vertical shots.

dana + yossi | red rocks, nevada engagement session

My last day in Las Vegas, I was able to squeeze in a last minute engagement session thanks to my good friend, the amazing Shira Weinberger. Dana and Yossi had never been in front of a professional photographer before, but they quickly got comfortable when I reminded them to focus on each other. Their chemistry and sensuality was very evident, so there was very little I had to do.

I’ve been messing with panoramas since I lived in Hawaii in 2006, and I’ve been trying to insinuate them bit by bit into my wedding and portrait work. So far so good.

I almost had a passerby drive off with my 85L and wallet while we tried to get one final shot. But that’s a story I’ll save for over drinks.
