Ava and Matt are two of the most humble and gracious people around, their presence assured and tender. They stole glances at each other throughout the day — it was very obvious that they were crazy in love. A smile from her would light up his face from across the room and vice-versa. seattle wedding photographer | good morning, sunshine.

There are so many exciting things on the horizon for our family and business. We wrapped filming on a three-day promo shoot for Saia Weddings just yesterday by my good friend and former colleague, Ted Allen from the Bay Area. We’re patiently waiting on the edit, and can’t wait to share it with everyone here within the next few weeks. Further, I’m in the middle of planning several one-day workshops for amateur and budding professional photographers in the Seattle area — stay tuned for official dates and details! :)

seattle wedding photographer | rachel + yoshi | brooklyn portrait session

I’ve been wanting to do a portrait shoot with my amazing sister, Rachel, and her husband, Yoshi for a long, long time. Yoshi was my roommate in high school way back when, and is one of my closest friends. We don’t see them much since they live in Brooklyn, and they are both full time students – Rachel is a NYU undergrad and Yoshi is the student body president of his graduating NYU Law class.

seattle wedding photographer | Personal Work

An unanticipated but altogether welcome side-effect of finally starting this blog is that it has completely reinvigorated my passion for personal projects. A lot of professional photographers will tell you that their desire to shoot for themselves will tend to wane as their craft becomes their profession. I took a couple shots out of the passenger seat on my way back from Mystic 5 with my old buddy, Val, and just had a little fun with them.

The top is a photo montage I threw together, and the last is a (humble) little nod to Cartier-Bresson, waiting for the decisive moment when a passerby is illuminated by a streetlight.

seattle wedding photographer | Mystic 5 | Wedding photographers have fun too

At the encouragement of an old colleague, Val, and my wife, Jenny, I made the last minute decision to fly to the East Coast last week to attend Walter van Dusen’s Mystic 5 Workshop. I had had an amazing experience at last year’s workshop, but I didn’t know if I was up for flying out New Year’s Day on a red eye to make the workshop. I am so grateful that my wife encouraged me to go (I think her words were, “I’d rather have you out of the house for a week than be around here kicking yourself for not going.” I love her.)…
